What is Proposition 65?

California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, known as Proposition 65 (Prop 65), requires businesses to provide warnings to California consumers before knowingly and intentionally exposing them to chemicals listed by the State of California as known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.

The Prop 65 list contains over 900 chemicals. Some of these chemicals are commonly found in materials used in footwear manufacturing, including certain metals used in hardware and accessories.

Which Products Does This Apply To?

This warning applies to all Hot Chocolate Design footwear and accessories sold to customers in the State of California. It is provided out of an abundance of caution, as certain components — including metal hardware such as buckles, clips, and decorative fittings — may contain trace amounts of lead detectable under California's Proposition 65 standards.
